Artus Van Briggle
American (1869 – 1904)
American art potter, born in Felicity, Ohio, trained as a painter at the Academy of Art in Cincinnati, where he was employed by the Rookwood Pottery. In 1893, he was given a scholarship to study painting in Paris, where he spent three years. Back in Cincinnati he resumed work as a painter of underglaze decorations at the Rookwood pottery but also began to experiment with matt glazes. Suffering f
