Since business began in the 1920's, Gorringes has grown and expanded in both infrastructure and reach. The England-based auction house changed hands and locations several times during its history. In 2002, the house was even awarded the B.A.C.A Award for Best Provincial Auction Rooms. Gorringes has auctioned several notable lots and items in the past years, including a collection of Jane Austen artifacts sold to the Jane Austen House Museum in 2013. In 2008, Gorringes began its online presence and has provided live auctions to buyers over the internet ever since. In the past, Gorringes has conducted more than 510 online auctions, 16 of which happened in 2014. The auction house is now providing online auctions in partnership with Invaluable.com, which will enable even more exposure to prospective buyers in the US. Services & Staff Gorringes offers one live auction a week through Invaluable.com and regular specialist sales for the most popular departments; automobillia, books, coins, entertainment memorabilia, medals, textiles, toys, and stamps. About every seven weeks, a Fine Art Antique and Collectables sale is conducted, which online bidders can access a week in advance to place bids. The lots being auctioned include a diverse range of collectables and fine arts, such as manuscripts, bronzes and metalware, furniture, jewelry, antique toys, musical instruments, and much more. The staff working behind the scenes at Gorringes have decades of experience in antique appraisals, sales, and auctioneering. Several of them are members of the prestigious Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors or have history working with the organization. Philip Taylor is one of the managing partners of Gorringes and has worked in the auction business for more than 40 years and is the primary organizer of the periodical Country House Sales.
